Pupils discover more about the 3Rs

Pupils have learned about the importance of recycling, upcycling, and discovered the impact that people’s careless actions can have on our planet.

Pupils were visited by Councillor Jackie Floyd, a member of Blackburn with Darwen Council, who is also a volunteer for the Blackburn branch of Keep Britain Tidy.

During a special assembly, Cllr Floyd talked to the children about the 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) and the simple actions they can take to protect our planet. The children learnt about how littering has a negative impact on our planet and took home one simple message that everyone can follow – use a bin. Pupils were shown a selection of upcycled and recycled items to demonstrate how waste – in this case items found on beaches – can be given a new life or reused for a different purpose.

Principal Smeena Riaz said:

“As part of our values, we teach pupils from a young age to be a responsible citizen in their communities and about respect. The assembly on the environment showed them that we can all do our bit to help the planet by being responsible with our litter, as well as recycling, mending and reusing items to give them a new life rather than simply throwing them away.”

PUPILS learned about the importance of picking up their litter and looking after the environment.
