Welcome from the Chair

Welcome to our school website. I hope that it provides you with both useful information and a flavour of our wonderful school.

For us as governors, it is important that our parents feel welcome. A good relationship between school and home helps to build a child’s confidence and assists their development in school. We depend upon the co-operation, support and involvement of parents. At the Olive School we strive to foster a relationship that does not end at the school gate, and to develop a good understanding between home, staff, governors and the local community for the benefit of our children.

It seems incredible that we have already been open for a year; time passes so quickly. However, we have achieved so much in just 12 months.

Our academic results are terrific and place us in the top percentile nationally – an outstanding achievement I am sure you will agree.

Our Ofsted inspection in July was extremely successful with Her Majesty’s Inspectors stating that: “Leaders at all levels demonstrate a very strong and clear vision for the school. This vision is built on high expectations for academic success, excellent behaviour and preparation of pupils to live and work in a culturally diverse society.”

Our pupils have experienced a rich and varied curriculum this year with learning brought to life by visits to the zoo, the farm, local landmarks and visits from some very special guests, including a family of owls! The curriculum is enriched by many varied after school activities which are attended by all our children.

Our children are encouraged to become an important part of their local community through charitable giving and support for those in need. They do this in a number of ways including taking part in donating food for our Food Bank and organising a very successful Summer Fair. In addition, our pupils and their families raised £4,688.52 for charitable causes during Ramadan in 2014.

The children at our school have a happy, safe and caring environment in which to learn. We not only strive to enable our children to reach their full potential academically but also to be confident, sensitive to others, interested in the world around them and to grow up to be outstanding British citizens.

Here at the Olive, our team of Governors are hard-working and passionate about the school. We provide support to the school in many ways, using our experience from various backgrounds. We are here to make sure that the school’s performance is evaluated and continuously improves, to provide the strategic direction for the school, to ensure legal obligations are met and that the school keeps abreast of whatever challenges circumstances throw our way. Most of all we are here because we care for our school and want it to succeed.

I sincerely hope that your child enjoys their time at the Olive School and look forward to a strong and productive partnership with you over the coming years.
