Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium was introduced by the Government in April 2011 and is allocated according to:

• the number of pupils on-roll who are eligible for free school meals
• the number of children of service families
• each pupil who has been ‘Looked After’ (in care) for six months or more.

In 2012, funding was extended to include pupils who have been eligible for free school meals within the past six years.

These groups of pupils have been identified nationally as achieving at a lower level than pupils from less disadvantaged backgrounds. National figures show that 11 year olds who are eligible for free school meals are approximately twice as likely not to achieve Level 4 in Mathematics and English as other 11 year olds. It is believed that the best way to address current inequalities in pupil funding is by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantaged pupils reaches the ones who need it most.

We are committed to using the grant to ensure that we narrow the academic gap for vulnerable pupils and achieve the highest possible outcomes.
